Flow Kidz Teacher Training with Brandi Allen
kytt

Join Master Kids Yoga teacher, Brandi Allen for the first formalized Kids Yoga Teacher Training (KYTT) program in Utah. Brandi has been teaching children for 15 years and is recognized as one of the top kids yoga instructors in Salt lake City. We are thrilled to offer this amazing opportunity to the community of teachers, parents, and those who desire to share the gift of yoga with children.

Brandi completed her studies in Elementary Education at the University of Utah in 1991. She currently teaches at a Montessori school and specializes in "Kids Yoga" at Flow. In addition to her regular teaching schedule, Brandi also has, with Jennifer Ellen, developed the Kids Yoga Teacher Training at Flow in hopes that more children will have the opportunity to develop the many life skills that yoga has to offer.

The KYTT sessions are held one weekend per month for four months beginning in September. The cost of the full program (all four weekends) is $950, with a $250 deposit due at the time of application.CLICK HERE to download and print the application.

CURRICULUM OVERVIEW:

Yoga History & Philosophy

What is yoga and how is it beneficial to children?  We will look at the eight limbs of the yogic path and how they pertain to children and us as their teachers.

Theory & Practice of Teaching

Guiding children through this ancient practice takes patience, love and consideration of each individual child.  We will help you develop your own personal teaching style using the following modules:

  • Classroom Management
  • Sequencing and counter poses
  • Age appropriate routines
  • Creating a focus, integrating themes and setting rhythm and tone
  • Psychology and ethics of teaching

Theory and Practice of Yoga through Play

Children’s work is their play and that is the way they learn.  As children move, their brain is developing and growing.  In the following means, we will learn and grow with yoga:

  • Singing
  • Story telling
  • Games
  • Nursery Rhymes

Theory and Practice of Asana

Asana, or postures, of yoga bring body, mind, and spirit together in forms that have been practiced for thousands of years.  Children love to explore through movement and we will discover ways to teach these “seats” of yoga in many different ways:

  • Salutations
  • Creating fun and accessible ways to learn poses
  • Pose by Pose overview of physiological and subtle body benefits of asana
  • Asana coming to life in animal form

Experiential Learning

Just as children learn through experience, so will your learning grow as you find your own personal practice and continue in your education by:

  • Creating lesson plans and volunteer to teach children’s yoga classes
  • Observing and assisting in children’s yoga classes
